Widget font

In CSS, the font-family property specifies a prioritized list of one or more font family names and/or generic family names to use when rendering text. The name can be specific (e.g "Helvetica") or generic (e.g "serif").

The browser uses the first font available on the device and falls back to the next one in the list when necessary. This means:

  • The font can be pre-installed on the device, or made available by the website as a webfont.

  • There's no guarantee that text will be displayed identically across devices: the font may not be installed on the device, the webfont may fail to download, etc.

  • "Special" characters (for example accented letters, currency symbols, etc) may be displayed with a different font than the "regular" characters, because the first fonts in the stack do not contain glyphs for those characters.

By default, you can configure the widget to use one of the following font stacks:

  • Default, corresponding to -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, "Segoe UI", "Roboto", "Oxygen", "Ubuntu", "Cantarell", "Fira Sans", "Droid Sans", "Helvetica Neue", sans-serif. This stack is designed to make websites look native on every platform.

  • Consolas, corresponding to Consolas, Menlo, Monaco, monospace. This is a common monospace stack used for code.

  • Futura, corresponding to Futura, "Trebuchet MS", Arial, sans-serif. Futura is commonly available on Apple platforms but not on Windows.

  • Garamond, corresponding to Garamond, Baskerville, "Baskerville Old Face", "Hoefler Text", "Times New Roman", serif. This stack can vary quite a bit because font availability differs widely.

  • Georgia, corresponding to Georgia, Times, "Times New Roman", serif. One of the most consistent serif stacks.

  • Helvetica, corresponding to "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif. Historically one of the most widely used web font stacks before system UI stacks became popular..

  • Optima, corresponding to Optima, Segoe, "Segoe UI", Candara, Calibri, Arial, sans-serif. This gives a distinctive humanist look on Apple devices but becomes much more ordinary elsewhere.

  • Palatino, corresponding to Palatino, "Palatino Linotype", "Palatino LT STD", "Book Antiqua", Georgia, serif. This is one of the better cross-platform serif stacks because most platforms have at least one Palatino-family font.

For modern devices in 2026, the following table shows what each stack typically resolves to:
